Our lifestyle influences our thoughts, feelings and actions

There are sentences or words that are tattooed on our lives and determine our thoughts and actions. These words can hold us back or even make us give up. In individual psychology this is called lifestyle-sentences.


Lifestyle-sentences are a fascinating thing. It is so deeply ingrained in us that we are often unaware of how much it influences our thoughts and actions. But if we are conscious of our lifestyle-sentences, we can use them to develop ourselves and shape our lives in a positive way.


Our lifestyle-sentences are the product of our experiences, values and beliefs. It is the pattern that results from the way we think and behave. It gives us direction and helps us make sense of the world. Because we created our view of the world and people in childhood, your behaviour may have worked really well in the past. You got what you wanted. But today, somehow, it's not so easy. You offend. You withdraw. You don't dare try anything new. And so it is that our lifestyle-sentences, especially in adult life, can block us and make life difficult.


But there is good news: we can work on our lifestyle-sentences! Just because it's like this now doesn't mean it has to stay that way.


The first step is to discover these tattooed phrases or stumbling blocks.

- Which sentences or words have a negative influence on your thoughts and actions?

- What behaviours are blocking you and preventing you from achieving your goals?

- What thoughts are holding you back?

- Does your lifestyle-sentence support you on your path or does it prevent you from reaching your full potential?


The second step is to work on these sentences/words. We need to realize that we have the choice to change our way of thinking and behaving.


Sentences such as “I always have to do everything on my own” can be rewritten as “I can ask for help”. Or “I am not enough” can become “I am enough”. It often takes support to recognize and rewrite these sentences. I am happy to be there for you in this process.


What should not be forgotten: It takes time, patience and commitment to change our old thinking. Take your time and don't give up!


When we learned to ride a bike as children, it took us several tries. We would fall down and wanted to give up and never get on a bike again. But in the end we did it. We could ride a short distance on our own, without training wheels or help from our parents. As time went on, we got better and better and now we whizz down the streets as if we had always done so. It will be the same with our new thought pattern - these phrases. Don't give up!

Lifestyle-sentences influence our thoughts, feelings and actions. It can motivate us or hold us back. We have the choice to change the way we think and behave in order to develop our full potential.
